Kalvin Phillips is ready for his opportunity at Manchester City

Kalvin Phillips is ready to finally ready for his opportunity at Manchester City. With City’s midfield general Rodri set to miss the champion’s next three domestic games due to suspension, Phillips now has a chance to stake his claim.

The England international has had to wait for an opportunity this season. Phillips had barely featured this season before Saturday’s win over Nottingham Forest. After Rodri’s senseless red card, the former Leeds midfielder got a chance to impress. He was called into duty as the champions set about holding on to their 2-goal lead.

Kalvin Phillips did what his team and manager required as the City rearguard held firm to secure three points. The midfielder did his job and helped his team. It wasn’t a spectacular showing from the midfielder, but it was one that his team needed on the day. His performance is a good starting place for Phillips to get into the season.

With Rodri suspended, Phillips will now get an opportunity this week. Phillips is determined to make it at City. Speaking with Joe Bray of Manchester Evening News he said: “I am not going to have just one season at City and just because I am not playing and just say ‘oh well, I have been here for a year and enjoyed it but it’s not for me.’ I wanted to try and break my way into the team even though it’s very difficult. I want to try and make a name for myself at Manchester City.”

With Rodri’s suspension, Kalvin Phillips now has that opportunity. It’s a credit to Phillips to stay and fight for a place, now the opportunity is there to seize for the England international.
