Having struggled during last season through injury and then illness and emergency surgery, he missed out.
Despite missing parts of the season, his stats and contributions to the team were phenomenal.
He even ended up playing a crucial role in the Champions League final after De Bruyne came off injured.
Fast forward to the beginning of this seasons campaign, the squad has some big names out. Nevertheless, the youngster has stepped up and recognised that he is a senior City player regardless of his young age.
He has been around this squad and Guardiola for longer that most of the current personnel.
His creativity is clear for all to see. Playing further inside this season, he is proving that he has the ability to play in more central positions.
However, the game versus Nottingham Forest allowed Foden to display other of his attributes.
During the first half he was on fire and put on a thrilling attacking show. So composed, silky, mature and exciting.
Then, following Rodri’s red card early in the second half the Blues had to dig in to maintain the win. City’s star boy put on a wonderfully intelligent defensive display.
Holding onto the ball when needed, slowing down the play, taking on players to force us up the pitch and out of danger. His maturity and leadership skills shone through.
Surprising, considering Southgate claimed him uncapable – could this have something to do with his comments about confidence?
