Steven Mcinerney looks at 5 things we learned from Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Red Star Belgrade. The reigning European champions kicked off their title defence with a comfortable win at the Etihad.
The first item on the agenda for the Esteemed Kompany host is just how special a player is Julian Alvarez. The Argentinean has begun this season in sparkling form. He scored a brace against the Serbian champions to continue his fine form. He has stepped up in Kevin De Bruyne’s absence and his game continues to grow.

Steven also looks at how Jeremy Doku has changed the Manchester City set-up. Doku put in a man-of-the-match performance against West Ham and he played well against Red Star. Once coming on for the injured Bernardo Silva Doku again showed what he’s added to Manchester City.
Rodri again put in another dominant performance. He added a goal to round up yet another brilliant performance. Rodri is without doubt the best midfielder in world football and he showed that again in the UEFA Champions League.
The only downside of the night for City was the injury suffered by Bernardo Silva. One of City’s most important players hobbled off just before half-time. He joins a lengthy injury list for Manchester City. It was the only negative on the night for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Esteemed Kompany host Steven Mcinerney goes over all of this and more in his 5 things we learned video featured below.
