Bernardo Silva was injured during Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Red Star Belgrade. The City playmaker hobbled off and was replaced by Jeremy Doku just before half-time of the UEFA Champions League clash.
Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, Jack Grealish and Mateo Kovacic are all currently out injured. The potential loss of Bernardo Silva for any period of time will be felt by Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola spoke about Bernardo Silva’s injury following Manchester City’s win. He was unsure how long one of City’s key players will be out for. Pep told the media that Bernardo would be out for several games saying: “I didn’t speak with the doctors but apparently for the next games he won’t be able to play.”
Guardiola also explained that the European champions can’t have a massive squad of players. He said: “We cannot have the salaries and budgets for transfers to have 55 players. It would be chaos for the clubs and they would be bankrupt. Sometimes it happens.”
With Bernardo Silva joining the City injury list, it is now a lengthy one for the treble winners. There is hope that Mateo Kovacic may return this weekend against Nottingham Forest. With City’s Portuguese star out the possible return of Kovacic will be a boost for Pep Guardiola with other key players currently sidelined.
