Manchester City’s Portuguese and Croatian stars were once again in action overnight. Portugal and Croatia both recorded wins to wrap up their internationals over the break.
Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias both started for Portugal as beat Luxembourg 9-nil in their UEFA European Championship qualifier. It was a record-breaking win for Portugal, beating their previous record of 8-nil.
City midfielder Bernardo Silva registered an assist in the rout. It was yet another impressive display from the Manchester City playmaker. He was withdrawn in the 61st minute as his job was done for the game.
Ruben Dias got through 90 minutes in Portugal’s demolition of Luxembourg. It was a relatively quiet night for City’s inspirational defender as the Portuguese ran riot. Both players will now return to Manchester for the build-up for Saturday’s clash with West Ham at the London Stadium.
Josko Gvardiol played the full 90 minutes for Croatia in their 1-nil win over Armenia. The win helped maintain Croatia’s unbeaten start to their European Championship qualifying campaign.
Gvardiol put in a near man-of-the-match display at the back as he helped his side keep a clean sheet. It was yet another dominant display from the City defender. The clean sheet provided Croatia with the platform to seal a 1-nil over Armenia.
Mateo Kovacic was once again an unused substitute for Croatia. Being an unused substitute in both of Croatia’s matches over the international break has given Kovacic a rest heading into City’s busy schedule once domestic football resumes this weekend.
City’s Portuguese and Croatian star will now return to the club ahead of the weekend’s clash with West Ham.
