Manchester City will always be City legend David Silva’s club

Manchester City will always be David Silva’s club. The club legend spent a decade at the European champions as City became the dominant force in English football.

Speaking with David McDonnell of the Mirror the Spanish playmaker looked back on his time at City. He explained that he missed playing for the treble winners. He said: “I miss playing and I miss playing for City. It’s my club. I spent 10 years of my life there, so I have very good memories of being there. I went back to Manchester with Real Sociedad last season when we played United at Old Trafford and won 1-0. But I want to go back there with my family, maybe next year.”

The City legend also explained which current City player he’d like to have played with. He chose Erling Haaland as the player he’d loved to have provided service for. He added: “Haaland is a beast and I like the way he moves on the field. I would have loved to have played with him, to help him score even more goals!” The thought of Haaland and Silva on the same pitch would have been a dream pairing for Manchester City fans.

David Silva was forced to retire from football this season due to an ACL injury he suffered in pre-season. It brought to an end a glittering career full of accolades and trophies. The Spanish midfielder was a key component of City’s decade of excellence that led to the historical treble last season.

It is hoped by Manchester City fans that there will be a testimonial at some point to the club legend. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the City fans didn’t get an opportunity to say goodbye to one of their heroes. Whenever the City legend returns to the club, he will be given a hero’s welcome.
