Manchester City learn possible opponents for FIFA Club World Cup

European champions Manchester City have learnt their possible opponents for the FIFA Club World Cup. The tournament will be held in Saudi Arabia and take place between December 12-23.

The treble winners will face either Mexican side Club Leon or J-League side Urawa Red Diamonds. The pair face off in a second-round tie. The winner will then join City in the semi-final.

If Pep Guardiola’s side progress to the final they could face one of several teams. The South American participants in the tournament are yet to be decided. Boca Juniors or Palmieras will take on the winner of Fluminese and Internacional in the Copa Libertadores semi-finals. The final of the Copa Libertadores will take place on November 4th to decide the South American side in the FIFA Club World Cup.

The South American representative will face either Al Ahly, Al-Ittihad or Auckland City in the other semi-final. The winner will face the winner of City’s semi-final in the prestigious final.

This will be Manchester City’s first time in the FIFA Club World Cup. As a club, this is a stage the European champions have craved. It will also give City the chance to add a 5th title to their trophy cabinet this calendar year. The club has already secured the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup in 2023.

A chance to claim another piece of silverware and make history for Manchester City will be motivation for Pep Guardiola and his squad throughout the tournament in December.
