James McAtee set for a second loan spell at Sheffield United

Official: James McAtee departs Manchester City for a second loan spell with Sheffield United

Talented Manchester City youngster James McAtee has departed the treble winners for another loan spell with Sheffield United. The move was confirmed today by both clubs.

McAtee completed a successful loan spell with the Blades last season. He was a key player in the club’s promotion last campaign. Sheffield United secured promotion via a second-place finish in the Championship last season. He made 43 appearances and scored 9 goals while also contributing 4 assists to aid the Blades cause.

James McAtee was excited to return to Sheffield United for this season. Speaking on their official website he said: “I’m excited to be back and I can’t wait to get back out onto the pitch. It has been very last-minute, I’ve kept my head down, trained hard at City and waited to see what was happening. I think the emotional connection with the club and the opportunity to play in the Premier League were big factors in me coming back.”

The chance to play regular Premier League football should aid McAtee’s development. Earlier in the window it was reported that City were keen to retain McAtee’s services. Craig Hope of the Daily Mail previously reported that Pep Guardiola wanted McAtee to be a part of his squad this season. Instead a loan move to Sheffield United came late in the window.

As James McAtee departs for Bramall Lane it remains to be seen if there will be any more deals done by the treble winners.
