Manchester City have four players called up for England duty

Manchester City have had four players called up for England duty during the upcoming international break. England will continue their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with matches against Ukraine and Scotland.

Kyle Walker, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips have all been called up by Gareth Southgate to be part of his 25-man squad. The four City players have been constants of Southgate’s England lineups in recent times.

A story to watch for during the internationals will be where Phil Foden lines up for England. Foden has traditionally lined up on a wing for the national team. The England manager has previously stated that Foden plays there for his country as he doesn’t play in the centre of midfield for his club. This season has seen the City academy graduate shift into midfield. He put in a man-of-the-match display in City’s 1-nil win over Newcastle United two weeks ago. If that’s enough for Southgate to play Foden in midfield remains to be seen.

While Kyle Walker and Jack Grealish are obvious selections, the selection of Kalvin Phillips is sure to raise eyebrows. The former Leeds United midfielder hasn’t featured at all for Manchester City this season. He has traditionally been a favourite of Gareth Southgate and is again picked for his country.

John Stones has missed out on selection this time around. The City defender is currently injured and not expected back until after the international break.
