Manchester City’s forgotten man Joao Cancelo set to complete loan move to Barcelona

Manchester City’s forgotten man Joao Cancelo is set to complete a loan move to Barcelona it has been reported. After completing the pre-season with Pep Guardiola’s squad on the tour of Japan and Korea, Cancelo hasn’t been sighted at Manchester City.

Fabrizio Romano has broken the news of a loan deal being agreed between the European champions and Barcelona for Cancelo. He adds that the necessary paperwork is being exchanged between the clubs to complete the deal. In addition to the paperwork being exchanged, he adds that Cancelo is prepared to travel to Barcelona tonight to complete the move. Romano further adds that the loan deal has an option to buy for Barcelona included.

The news of a deal finally being agreed upon will put an end to the speculation on Joao Cancelo’s future. The Portuguese full-back left the European champions last January on a 6-month loan with Bayern Munich. The reigning Bundesliga champions declined to take up their option to buy Cancelo which was included in the loan deal.

With a loan deal to Barcelona on the horizon for Joao Cancelo, that is another player’s future at the Etihad resolved. With Aymeric Laporte departing for Al Nassr, it leaves the treble winners only with the futures of several young players to resolve.
