Manchester City opposition watch: Sheffield United

Manchester City head to Bramall Lane this weekend to take on the recently promoted Sheffield United. No doubt the Blades and their home crowd will be fired up for the visit of the treble winners. While on paper this should be a routine win for City, no game ever is. So how do Sheffield United shape up heading into this weekend’s clash?

After securing promotion via a second-place finish in the Championship last season, the Blades have started slowly upon their return to the Premier League. They lost on the opening day at home, 1-nil to Crystal Palace, and followed that up with a 2-1 loss away to Nottingham Forest. They were beaten by an 89th-minute Chris Wood header at the City Ground. They’ve shown plenty of fight since their return to the Premier League. They lack the quality of many of the sides in the league but make up for that with their effort and work rate which has been on show in their first two games.

The hosts come into this game with several injury concerns as reported by Michael Plant of Yahoo Sport. Talented full-back Jayden Bogle will likely miss the clash after missing the pre-season with injury. Striker Ollie McBurnie hasn’t featured yet this season either as he recovers from an ankle injury. George Baldock may be back for the hosts after missing the Nottingham Forest game with a knock.

A player to watch for the hosts will be Gustavo Hamer. He was recently signed from Coventry City. He scored a cracking goal on his debut for the Blades and will be keen to test himself against the European champions.

A tough test awaits City against the newly promoted Sheffield United and their fired-up home crowd.
