The Belgian international arrives at the club from Ligue One side Rennes for an undisclosed fee. Reports have indicated that the treble winners have beaten competition from West Ham, Tottenham and Chelsea for the pacey wide man. Sam Lee of the Athletic reported that City faced late competition from Doku, but the Belgian international had his heart set on a move to the European champions.
After losing Riyad Mahrez to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli the Premier League champions were in the market for another winger. Doku is not a like for like replacement for Mahrez. He has a different set of attributes to the Algerian star, and they will be a welcome addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad. His pace and dribbling ability will bring a new threat to an already potent Manchester City attack.
Jeremy Doku made 92 appearances for Rennes during his spell at the club after arriving from Anderlecht. He contributed 12 goals and 10 assists in his time at the French club. He is also a Belgian international having represented his country on 14 occasions, scoring twice.
Doku’s arrival at the Etihad isn’t expected to be Manchester City’s last signing of the summer window. They are in the market for another midfielder to complete their squad for the new season.
