Bernardo Silva signing a new contract with the European champions may be City’s most important summer signing. The champions have been busy in the market adding Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol and Jeremy Doku’s signing is all but confirmed.
While each of City’s new signings will add quality to the squad, Bernardo signing a contract extension may be more vital to City than any summer arrival. His resume speaks for itself during his spell at the treble winners.

Bernardo Silva’s importance to Pep Guardiola’s squad is immeasurable. He can play multiple roles and never lets his side down when called upon. In his time at the Etihad, he has played on a wing, in midfield and at left back and never lets his team down. His work rate and technical ability are attributes that would be next to impossible to replace. The fact his new deal extends to the end of the 2026 season means City can plan for the next three seasons with their star man as part of the squad.

The contract extension also means the speculation of City’s Portuguese star leaving the club will die down. He has long been linked with a move away from the Etihad. Now that he has committed his future to the club the endless speculation will end.
Manchester City will likely remain busy in the transfer market seeking to strengthen their midfield. No matter how good a signing they make, none may measure up to the importance of retaining Bernardo Silva’s services for this season and beyond.
