Manchester City are still in the market for a midfielder after reportedly sealing Jeremy Doku deal

Manchester City are still in the market for a midfielder after reportedly wrapping up a deal for winger Jeremy Doku. After seeing the deal for West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta collapse, the treble winners are expected to be active in the market.

As it stands there have been links to Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz. Fabrizio Romano reports via his exclusive Substack column that the Bundesliga club would only consider a ridiculous offer for Wirtz. The German youth international fits the bill as a talented young player who could develop at City. But finding a deal for the playmaker so late in the window may be hard to achieve. The youngster is a key part of his club’s set up. He scored on the opening day 3-2 win over RB Leipzig.

Another possible target in midfield for the champions is Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace. Abdi Rashid of the Daily Mail has previously reported that City could rival Tottenham Hotspur for the Englishman’s signature. Eze has made 95 appearances for Palace and scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists during his spell at the Eagles. He has become an England international during his time at Palace. At 25 years of age, he is another player full of potential that the treble winners routinely target to add to their squad.

With Jeremy Doku’s signature virtually sealed, the European champions will now turn their attention to strengthening their midfield. Kevin De Bruyne is sidelined until the new year with a hamstring injury. With his absence more creativity in midfield appears as a hole that needs to be filled before the transfer window closes.
