With the imminent arrival of Jeremy Doku at Manchester City from Rennes, what does it mean for Cole Palmer’s future at the Etihad?
The City Academy starlet has started the season in good form. He has scored twice already this season against Arsenal and Sevilla. There are signs from the youngster that he is ready to take the next step in his young career.
Jeremy Doku’s imminent arrival will add another winger to the City set-up. Whilst not the same type of player as Palmer, they do prefer to play in the same position. Both generally play on the right wing, possessing a different set of attributes.
Cole Palmer has made no secret of his desire for more first-team football this season. Speaking after the UEFA Super Cup success he said: “I just want to play football. So whatever the best decision is when we speak together, that is what I will do. The best scenario is to stay at City and play but you know what the competition is like, if they bring someone in… I don’t know. I just want to play regularly, lots of minutes. We will see.”
As Belgian winger Doku gets set to arrive at the Etihad, the future of Cole Palmer may become clearer. There has been reported interest in his services from West Ham, Brighton and most recently Borussia Dortmund. He has no shortage of suitors if he decides to leave more first-team opportunities.
In an ideal world, both Jeremy Doku and Cole Palmer would both stay and contend for spots as the European champions. They would both bring a different set of attributes and talents to the squad. Whether or not that eventuates will be known by the time the transfer window closes.
