John Stones out with injury until after the international break

John Stones will be out of action until after the international break it has been revealed by City manager Pep Guardiola. Stones picked up a muscle injury at training following the UEFA Super Cup victory over Sevilla.

Pep Guardiola broke the news of Stones lay off following the 1-nil win over Newcastle. Speaking with the press post-game, Guardiola explained Stones’s situation saying: “We have to come back, you know how the people come back, John will be after the international break when he will be ready, and Kevin is four or five months.”

It is a blow for the treble winners as they’ve had an injury-hit start to the season. With Stones out for 3 weeks, his loss is added to Kevin De Bruyne’s long-term injury. There was some positive news on the injury front with Guardiola additionally telling the media that Bernardo Silva is due to return to training this week. Pep told the media: “I think Bernardo maybe tomorrow is coming back. We have one or two days’ rest now. So demanding since Arsenal, we are going to try and train our principles and our concepts that we want to do.”

With Stones set to miss 3 or 4 weeks, the news of Bernardo Silva returning is welcome news for Manchester City. Ruben Dias returned for the win over Newcastle. While the loss of Stones and De Bruyne is a blow for City, Bernardo and Dias returning to the lineup is a positive as players recover from their early season injuries.
