Manchester City’s starting XI for UEFA Super Cup

Manchester City are set to face Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup this evening. The Blues confirmed their place following their claim as European Champions in Istanbul in June.

Lifting the Champions League trophy has been a dream for everyone involved with the club. And they could now add to their silverware collection.

While there are some key players missing from the travelling squad, this could be a good opportunity for other players to step up and assert their position.

Pep Guardiola confirmed that Kevin De Bruyne will be out until 2024 following a hamstring injury which requires surgery.

ManCity.com reported on Pep’s press conference where he confirmed the De Bruyne news:

“It’s a serious injury.

“We have to decide on surgery but he will be a few months out.

“Surgery would be, I don’t know, three or four months out.”

Bernardo Silva has also been left in Manchester and is not featured on the subs bench tonight. Dias and Stones have returned to the squad though both remain on the bench.

Starting for the Blues tonight is:

Ederson, Walker (C), Akanji, Gvardiol, Ake, Rodri, Kovacic, Foden, Palmer, Grealish and Haaland.

This will be Gvardiol’s first start for Manchester City, and will hopefully get his taste of first silverware with the Blues.

The UEFA Super Cup between Manchester City and Sevilla kicks off at 8pm (UK).
