The news of City’s Portuguese midfielder missing the clash with Europa League winners Sevilla is a blow for the Premier League champions. In addition to Bernardo’s absence, Kevin De Bruyne is also out of the clash due to the hamstring injury he suffered in the treble-winner’s 3-nil win over Burnley. Losing both stars is a massive loss for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Manchester City’s squad travelled to Athens for the UEFA Super Cup clash yesterday. Ruben Dias took his place on the flight, after not featuring on the initial list of players who departed for Greece. It is doubtful if Dias will feature due to the concussion he suffered at training last week.
John Stones did take his place with the touring party. City’s defender missed the season opener with a slight abductor injury. Pep Guardiola did say he may miss the clash with Sevilla and is more likely to return against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

The news of Stones taking his place with the travelling party is welcome news for the treble winners. With Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva not available for the UEFA Super Cup, John Stones return is a boost for Pep Guardiola’s squad ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup.
