Bayern Munich linked with raid on Manchester City for Stefan Ortega

Reports emerged last night of a potential Bayern Munich raid on Manchester City for keeper Stefan Ortega. With the German champions in the market for a keeper while Manuel Neuer recovers from injury, the latest target is Ortega according to reports.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany broke the news of the Bundesliga champion’s interest in the City stopper. In addition to their interest, Plettenberg reports that there have been talks between Ortega’s camp and Bayern. Furthermore, he adds that City is considering extending the keeper’s contract past 2025 due to his performances when called upon by Pep Guardiola.

The German champions are in the market for a goalkeeper this window. They had an interest in former Chelsea keeper Kepa but the Spanish shot-stopper decided to move on loan to Real Madrid. Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen confirmed their interest in the Spanish keeper prior to his move to Real Madrid. After missing out on Kepa, the German club appear to have switched their attention to the City man.

Stefan Ortega is an important member of the European champion’s set-up. Whilst not the number one keeper, he is a solid backup option for Pep Guardiola. He started the entire FA Cup run last season for Manchester City. He didn’t concede a goal until the final as the European champions claimed the FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Manchester United.

It is unknown at this stage if the treble winners would entertain an offer for their backup keeper. With only a few weeks remaining on the transfer window, it is doubtful an offer would be considered unless it was a significant one for Ortega.
