Joao Cancelo’s future at Manchester City may become clearer

As the new season begins, questions have been posed about Joao Cancelo’s future at Manchester City. Cancelo has been left out of the squad for City’s first two competitive games. An answer may become clearer in the coming days.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Barcelona are about to make a move for the full-back. With a right back high on the agenda for the La Liga champions, a move for Cancelo appears on the horizon.

The transfer expert adds to his report that their manager Xavi has the forgotten City man as a priority target. He also adds that the Catalan giants intend to continue negotiations with City and Cancelo in the coming days.

If a move to Barcelona does eventuate for the full-back, it would almost certainly be the end of his time at the treble winners. Cancelo featured during the pre-season friendlies, it appeared there may be some hope that Cancelo may return to the City set-up.

With the competitive games beginning Cancelo hasn’t featured in Pep Guardiola’s squad at all. The City boss has remained tight-lipped on the Portuguese defender’s future. The only comment from the City boss was before the FA Community Shield. When asked before the game, Guardiola said: “He had to go home with the family and was not here.”

With Barcelona stepping up their interest, Joao Cancelo’s future may be decided imminently. After such a promising start to his City career, it does appear that time is up for Cancelo at the Etihad.
