Will Erling Haaland fire in Premier League opener?

It seems a ridiculous question but will Erling Haaland fire in tonight’s Premier League opener?

City’s Norwegian marksman broke nearly every record available last season in his debut season. His feats helped Manchester City secure the treble for the first time in their history.

Heading into the season opener against Burnley, the striker is in somewhat of a goal drought. He hasn’t scored for 6 competitive games for the Premier League champions. It represents the largest spell without a goal for Haaland during his time with City.

He was unusually quiet in last Sunday’s FA Community Shield loss against Arsenal. Starved of service the Norwegian failed to get into the game before being substituted just after the hour mark. He similarly began last season slowly in the last season’s Community Shield loss to Liverpool.

Haaland would then hit the ground running with an opening weekend brace against West Ham. From there he stormed through the season on his way to 52 goals in 53 games.

Erling Haaland’s quality isn’t in question, and the goals will come for the striker. Will the drought end against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley on the opening day? City’s marksman scored a hat trick against the same opponent in the FA Cup quarter-final tie last season, so he has form against tonight’s opponent.

Will Erling Haaland hit the ground running to start the season against Burnley to send a message to the rest of the Premier League is a story to watch for heading into the opening weekend of fixtures.
