Pep Guardiola says repeating last season’s treble is almost impossible

Pep Guardiola has told the media that repeating last season’s treble is an almost impossible task. Manchester City kick off their treble defense tonight at Turf Moor against the newly promoted Burnley.

Speaking in his pre-game press conference the City boss reflected on last season’s historical achievement, ahead of the new campaign beginning. He said: “It is impossible to do what we did last season. It’s once in a lifetime, I said to the players forget it, we climbed the highest mountain but now we come down the mountain and we start from there with everyone with the same intention.”

The City boss also looked ahead to the challenges for this season adding: “Football and sport, what we’ve done will remain in our hearts and minds but it’s over. Every season we start from zero again, but our history speaks for itself. It’s almost impossible to repeat, we’re aware but we know how difficult it was and will try to do a good performance against Burnley, and after Newcastle then Sheffield United and game by game.”

As the new season begins, last season’s achievements will be put in the rearview. A new set of challenges await the treble winners and rest assured that Pep Guardiola will have his squad ready for what lies ahead. If the Premier League champions are to reach the heights of a season ago, they must be on their game from the beginning of the new campaign.
