Arsenal vs. Manchester City: Community Shield second half match report

Following an exciting display of football in the first half; pace vs. control, read everything that happened in the second half.

No changes for either side during the half time break.

45′: The Boys in Blue kick off and get the second half underway. Arsenal finished the first half stronger after a bright start from City. Can the Blues get back on top?

47′: Manchester City look to regain control of the game through thoughtful possession.

48′: Rodri’s distribution is impeccable as he pings it out to the right with perfect timing to meet Walkers run but there is no way through.

50′: Bernardo drives towards the opposition box and knocks it to Walker who manages to win a corner from his cross.

51′: CHANCE! Johnny Stones gets his head on the cross from the corner but it’s down Ramsdales throat and he makes the save.

52′: The team are receiving a Pep talk during a short interval whilst Odegaard is down receiving treatment.

54′: Akanji whips in a tasty cross which is cleared. City maintain possession however.

55′: Free-kick to Arsenal which is taken quickly and Rice carries the ball forward. He slows the play down but this allows the Blues to get back into position while the opposition enjoys a spell of probing possession.

57′: CHANGE! Phil Foden comes on for Jack Grealish who has had a quiet game.

58′: Free-kick to Arsenal after Saka stubbed his toe into Dias – it’s a weird decision. Martinelli takes the kick and it’s too deep to reach his teammates and the Blues win back possession.

61′: Kovacic with a beautiful ball through the middle for Haaland but it doesn’t come through. Odegaar begging the Arsenal fans to get behind the team in a friendly in their own City.

63′: CHANGE! Haaland is replaced by Cole Palmer and Kovacic is replaced by Kevin De Bruyne as he returns from injury.

64′: Corner to Arsenal following a great challenge by Rodri to stop the opposition getting into the City penalty area. The first corner is defended by Rodri which goes out for another and the second one comes to nothing.

65′: Gabriel with some theatrics for those drama lovers as he dives to the floor after attempting to block Ortega taking his goal kick.

68′: Arsenal causing City some problems in their ability to control the game, but the Blues stay organised.

69′: CHANCE! De Bruyne is BACK! Toying with the opposition on the left and he threads it through to Foden who has his back to goal, a lovely wait and turn to set up Cole Palmer for the shot which is deflected out for a corner.

72′: Walker makes a great run into the box and wins a corner for City.

74′: De Bruyne swings in a dangerous ball towards the back post, Alvarez is unable to get there after he slowed down his run.

76′: GOAL! Manchester City break through Foden who puts the ball through towards De Bruyne, there’s a deflection but King Kevin gets a head on it to release the ball to Palmer. The City youngster curls the ball with power past Ramsdale. Brilliant goal from the three subs.

Arsenal 0 – 1 Manchester City!

81′: Arsenal have the chance to break but City defend excellently.

82′: CHANCE! Two brilliant saves from Ramsdale as Foden sees his shot saved from close range – though not sure how much the Arsenal keeper knew about it. City win a corner from the chance which allows Rodri to have a shot.

86′: The third time Arteta has looked to bring on attacking reinforcements. Smith-Rowe and Viera on for the Gunners.

88′: Feisty one Cole Palmer is as he gives away a free-kick at the corner post at the Arsenal end. De Bruyne tries to capitalise on a Ramsdale error but there’s no way through for him.

90′: +8 minutes of additional time.

Arsenal have time to get back into the game with an equaliser. They are probing the City defence for their goal.

92′: Partey nuts Walker on the back of the head and both are down with head injuries. The City skipper has his head bandaged up and looks like he has avoided concussion and fit to continue.

96′: Manchester City get the game back underway with six more minutes to play for.

97′: Arsenal keep pushing for the equaliser. The Blues are under pressure to see out the game.

99′: Foden is back doing his defensive duties and puts the ball out for an Arsenal corner. Saka will take it.

100′: GOAL! Arsenal get their equaliser. Trossard takes a shot from the edge of the box and it’s deflected in by Akanji.

Arsenal 1 – 1 Manchester City.

102′: CHANCE! Dias with a chance but he cannot get on the end of the cross. Arsenal fans sound like they have returned to the stadium following their goal.

103′: FULL TIME! Arsenal 1 – 1 Manchester City. We will have penalties.

The penalties will be taken in front of the Arsenal fans. First up will be the Gunners captain Odegaard.

Arsenal win the friendly Community Shield after De Bruyne and Rodri miss their penalties.
