Leroy Sane returning to City sounds good, odds are it won’t happen

The idea of Leroy Sane returning to Manchester City sounds good in theory, odds are it won’t happen.

The German winger has always been a fan favorite of City fans. He at times dazzled on the pitch during his stay with the club. He became and remains a fan favorite after his spell with the champions.

A move back to Germany always beckoned for the winger. In 2020 he returned to his homeland with Bayern Munich.

The consensus at the time was Sane would become one of the premier players in world football with the German powerhouse. The reality is he hasn’t developed into the player expected. He still dazzles at times and catches the eye but lacks the consistency of the top players.

With the sale of Riyad Mahrez looming, there are reports of Manchester City being linked with a replacement winger. Sane now plays on the right wing, similar to Mahrez after residing on the left during his time with City. The German winger has been mentioned by some City fans as the ideal replacement for Mahrez.

Leroy Sane returning to Manchester City would make for a fantastic homecoming story, and he’d get a hero’s welcome if he returned to the club. But it appears to be that Sane’s time with Manchester City has been and gone, and we likely won’t see him back at the Etihad unless the champions face Bayern Munich in the Champions League again.
