Rico Lewis again impressive for Manchester City

Rico Lewis put in another impressive display for Manchester City, this time in midfield during the 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in Japan.

The City academy graduate played the first half of the champion’s win over the German powerhouse. After a shaky start, giving away possession in the game’s early stages, the youngster thrived as the half wore on.

Lewis set up the treble winners’ opening goal with a gut-busting run. He picked up the ball in midfield and drove at the Bayern defense to square the ball for Julian Alvarez. Alvarez shot was saved, but James McAtee was on hand to tap in to give City a 1-0 lead. The goal came about because of the enterprising play and maturity beyond his years shown by the City youngster.

After the goal, Rico Lewis went up a gear. He became a crucial part of the midfield. He formed a solid partnership in central midfield with Mateo Kovacic and he posed a threat with his gut busting runs forward from midfield.

The England youth international has now shown he can play in a plethora of positions for the champions. He can slot in as a inverted full-back comfortably, or as shown in this display, move into midfield and thrive.

His versatility and talent look to be a new string to Pep Guardiola’s sides bow. With the potential to play in midfield, Rico Lewis looks set to build upon the promising start he made to his career last season.
