Bayern Munich vs Manchester City: first half match report

Treble winners; Champions of Europe; and Champions of England face Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich today.

During their tour of Asia, the Blues play their second pre-season friendly against old foes.

The Blues will play in their new third kit.

Here is how the first half played out:

Kick-off: 11:30 (UK). Today Manchester City line-up with Ederson, Walker (C), Stones, Dias, Ake, Lewis, Kovacic, Bernardo, McAtee, Grealish, Alvarez.

The Blues kick-off the first half and the game is underway.

1′: Rico Lewis is pressed the highest up the pitch. He looks to be holding pockets of space in the midfield.

2′: Dias with a wonderful long ball to release Bernardo down the right, while Walker makes a fantastic run with the overlap.

4′: Stones with a shot from the edge of the box after being brought in by Alvarez and bursting run into the box by Rico Lewis. Shot goes wide.

4′: Bayern break very quickly, but Ake clears up the danger.

5′: Bayern have a corner but defender well by newbie Kovacic. Bayern look sharp thus far.

6′: Stones gets a toe to the ball as Bayern break into the City box. Danger thwarted.

7′: Grealish wins a foul. The sky is blue. We all pay tax.

8′: Free-kick taken and does not cause Bayern any problems. City still have the ball and are pressing for the opener.

11′: Sloppy passing from the Blues allows Bayern to pinch the ball back, and they break into the box through Leroy Sane. Dias defends well and clears the danger.

City songs bellow around the Japanese stadium – excellent international support.

14′: Bayern counterattack again but it is held well by the City defence, eventually being cleared by Ake. Corner to Bayern. Defended well, however the Blues are given a free-kick for offside.

16′: McAtee loses the ball and Bayern use their pace for a counterattack. Crucial pace and intervention by Ake who deflects a shot and Bayern win another corner.

17′: Foul to Bayern in a dangerous area. Free-kick taken by Leroy Sane hits the cross-bar.

19′: Foul on Grealish. Free-kick played back into City half.

20′: GOAL! Manchester City. Lovely ball from Walker who plays through to Lewis. He drives forward with the ball into the box and pulls it back to Alvarez who takes a shot. However, the shot is saved but McAtee is there for the rebound.

Bayern Munich 0 – 1 Manchester City.

23′: The game is back underway as Bayern kick-off following a short drinks break. The Blues have some defending to do already as the opposition swam the City box. Dias clears a cross and the ball is back with City.

25′: Ederson fails to clear the ball as it bounces off Musiala and provides Bayern with a goal scoring opportunity. The antics have led to Ake being down injured – Akanji is warming up.

29′: Substitution: Ake off – Akanji on.

33′: Walker bossing the right defensive side so far and keeping up the pace with the Bayern attack.

34′: SAVE! Ederson with a long-range shot/cross.

37′: Bayern break after Rico Lewis drives into the box again but is surrounded by Bayern defenders. Ederson makes the save following a minute of end-to-end action.

41′: Sane dribbles the ball around the box and squares it to Coman but Rico Lewis slides in to defend the lead. Bayern win a corner and after some scrambling the Blues clear their box.

42′: SAVE! The Blues causing all their own problems after they give the ball away and Bayern break, but Coman sees another shot thwarted.

45′: Kovacic drives through midfield with the ball and Pep will want to see more of that. +2 minutes of additional time has been added.

46′: A boo boo made by the Bayern keeper presents an opportunity to double their lead but Lewis runs out of space.

HALF-TIME: Bayern Munich 0 – 1 Manchester City.
