Manchester City are back! The Blues are back in action with their first game of pre-season in preparation for the 23/24 season ahead. The Boys in Blue will take on City Football Group brother Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan.
Ortega
City’s second keeper had an impressive debut season after joining on a free transfer last summer. A fantastic shot-stopper who is improving by the day with the ball at his feet.
Despite rumours that he has told Guardiola he would like to leave for Bayern Munich, he starts today. Perhaps he will take up City’s contract extension offer after all?
Stones
Johnny, Johnny Stones! Returning for the Blues. His hybrid role last season saw him blossom into a player that could glide through midfield and dictate the play like a seasoned midfielder.
Akanji
While warming the bench for Dortmund before joining Manchester City for peanuts, Akanji could have been one of the signings of the season. He played across the whole backline and very well indeed.
Ake
After a slow start with the Blues through injuries, Nathan Ake last season became one of City’s most crucial players. Especially following the departure of Joao Cancelo. Performing as one of the best left-backs in the league.
Phillips
The Yorkshireman had a frustrating debut season in Manchester. However, his positive attitude is a credit to him. It’s hard to knock Rodri out of the side, but he is ready to fight this season.
Kovacic
Our first glimpse of the Croatian in action for City following his signing with the club this summer. Brought in as a Gundogan replacement he has some huge boots to fill. A fantastic player with a successful career thus far.
While rumours circulate this summer regarding a potential exit for the youngster, he gets another chance to charm Guardiola with his football. The prospect of another Academy talent making it like Foden is exciting for the fans.
McAtee
Another exciting prospect. Returned to City following his successful loan spell at Sheffield United, word is that Guardiola will give him a chance to impress during pre-season with a view to keep him at the Etihad this coming season.
Grealish
Return of the Jack! “Calves Out” was one of City’s most important players last season. His ability to hold the ball and dictate rhythm was crucial in the big moment, season defining games.
Alvarez
Julian Alvarez almost completed football last season. It all started with a World Cup, before finishing with a Treble. A top talent that won’t be overshadowed by his fellow striker.
Enjoy the game, Blues.
Yokohama F. Marinos vs Manchester City kicks off at 11am (UK), don’t miss it.
