Pep Guardiola not sure what Manchester City’s squad will look like

Pep Guardiola is unsure what Manchester City’s squad will look like come the start of next season.

With Ilkay Gundogan leaving the club, Riyad Mahrez is on the verge of joining Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli and a host of other players are linked with moves away this window. The City boss isn’t sure who will remain with the treble winners once the transfer window closes.

Speaking with the media ahead of City’s pre-season opener against Yokohama F.Marinos, Pep said this summer’s developments had caught him by surprise, and he was unsure how the remainder of the window would play out. He also touched on Kyle Walker’s future at the champions.

He told the assembled media: “Honestly I didn’t think there would be this movement. I think many things are going to happen. That’s why I cannot answer cause I don’t know. I want the best for my players and of course, the club is involved with that as well. I spoke with Kyle and everything is right. We will see what happens. I cannot tell you anything ’cause he is still thinking about it.”

A summer refresh for the treble winner’s squad appears on the cards with so many key players’ futures undecided.

One thing is for certain if that does occur, Pep Guardiola will be ready for the challenge as Manchester City set about defending their treble of trophies from the 22/23 season.
