Pep Guardiola discusses the future of Joao Cancelo

Joao Cancelo has joined Manchester City on their preseason tour of Asia following his return from Bayern Munich.

The Portuguese fullback was loaned to the Bundesliga club during the winter transfer window after a clash with Guardiola. The move came as a surprise. Though he had been unhappy with gametime before the winter World Cup.

Cancelo scored one goal and assisted eight in twenty-one games for Bayern. However, the German champions declined an offer to buy him after his short spell with the club.

No other offers have come in thus far for the fullback, and sources close to the club had suggested another loan is possible.

Nevertheless, he has joined his City teammates in Tokyo, Japan before heading to South Korea. The preseason tour will see the Blues face his previous club Bayern Munich.

Pep Guardiola discussed the future of Cancelo during media duties earlier. The future remains unclear for the player.

Guardiola said:

“I cannot answer because I don’t know. I want the best for my players and of course the club is part of me as well.

“Joao has been so important for us in the past. After the loan at Bayern he is back here and is part of the group. Like I said to your colleagues, we will see what happens.”
