With the medical reportedly complete, the move will end Riyad Mahrez’s time with the treble winners. Signed from Leicester City in July 2018, the winger would become a key ingredient of Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side.
He would make 236 appearances for the champions, contributing 78 goals and 59 assists during his spell at City. He would make valuable contributions in big games, with his display against PSG in the 2021 Champions League semi-final a memorable performance. A hat trick in last season’s FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United was another reminder of how Mahrez would come up big when City needed him.
Attention now turns to if Manchester City will sign a replacement for Riyad Mahrez. Sam Lee of the Athletic has reported that the champions are in the market for a winger to fill the role left by Mahrez’s impending departure to the Gulf State.
