Barcelona belatedly enter Bernardo Silva race

Barcelona may have belatedly entered the race for Bernardo Silva.

Mundo reports that Barcelona manager Xavi has made City’s Portuguese midfielder their number one target this transfer window.

The Catalan giants have already sewn up the signing of treble-winning captain Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer.

Mundo also reports that Barcelona is aware of the difficulties faced by the club to satisfy Manchester City’s demands in any potential deal. A loan deal with the obligation to buy has been reported, but that seems a move Manchester City wouldn’t accept.

Another factor that may scupper any potential Barca deal for Bernardo is how important he is to City. Mundo adds to their report that Pep Guardiola is unlikely to sanction any deal to sell the midfielder with two years left on his current deal.

Bernardo’s ability and versatility are vital to the City machine. Any reluctance from Guardiola or City to sell the midfielder to any suitors is understandable.

There is also reported interest in Bernardo from Saudi club Al-Hilal and French giants PSG. James Benge of CBS Sports has previously reported on the mammoth offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal.

Tom Gott and Graeme Bailey of 90min reported that the French champions have made Bernardo Silva their primary target this window.

City are keen to keep their star midfielder. Duncan Castles of the Times reported that City have a new deal on offer for Bernardo.

The race for Bernardo Silva’s services appears to be heating up. With Barcelona entering the race, there is no shortage of suitors for the City star.
