With City captain Ilkay Gundogan departing the club, the Croatian international looks like a ready-made replacement.
Kovacic brings a wealth of experience to the Etihad. He’s a four-time winner of the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid and Chelsea. On top of that, he’s a key part of his national team set-up.
The midfielder has made 95 appearances for Croatia and was a key part of their World Cup squads in 2018 and 2022. Croatia finished as runners-up in 2018 and secured a third-place finish in 2022.
City’s signing of the Croatian international seems a shrewd bit of business from the champions.
