Jill Roord joins Manchester City Women on three-year contract

Manchester City have Jill Roord from VfL Wolfsburg on a three-year deal. Given that the Netherlands international has recently featured in a European final, she will bring vital experience to the women’s side.

Roord spent two seasons in the Bundesliga following a successful spell at Arsenal in 2019-2021.

The midfielder has 86 caps for her national side where she has seen UEFA European Championship success. Only two years later she took part in the FIFA Women’s World Cup final.

The 26-year-old has an impressive scoring record. In 69 appearances for Wolfsburg she netted 31 times.

Roord will join her new teammates, who are away as they prepare for the World Cup, after the international break.

Having won titles in two countries and a European title, she will bring a wealth of experience and a winning mentality.

Manager of the Women’s team Gareth Taylor signed an extension earlier in the summer. Jill Roord spoke of the conversations she had with her new boss:

“In my conversations with Gareth, I heard everything that I wanted to hear – we think the same way about football which is important, and where he sees me in the team was ideal – it is the perfect fit.”
