Rico Lewis contract extension to be announced this summer

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Rico Lewis was on the edge of singing a new deal back in May.

Sources close to the club have confirmed that the extension is tied up, signed and set to be announced this summer.

Following an impressive debut season with the first team, the young talent has been rewarded.

It could be argued that Lewis was the turning point for the season. As a result of his impeccable hybrid right-back/double pivot performances, he paved the way for Stones.

Guardiola had been playing with the tactical shift in previous games with both Cancelo and Walker. However, the team were not reaping the rewards and performances dropped off, as did the points.

Enter young superstar, Rico Lewis. After training with the first team for only a short period, he was utilised in some of City’s biggest games.

The shock departure of Joao Cancelo enabled him to step up into the limelight. And boy did he shine. The trust that Pep put into the 18-year-old speaks volumes about the players talent and versatility.

During his debut season he registered goals and assists. While breaking a Champions League record for youngest player to score in his first start in the competition. Consequently, taking the record off Real Madrid royalty, Karim Benzema.
