This was confirmed following a statement from RB Leipzig Sporting Director Max Eberl:
“Gvardiol and his agents gave us their desire to move to Manchester City. We are in talks with City.
“For €100 million + bonuses, Gvardiol will end up in Pep’s strong hands. The value of the deal would make Guardiol the most expensive defender in history. But it might take a few more days.”
Manchester City’s interest in the Croatian defender has been well-reported over recent weeks. The clubs are in ongoing negotiations while personal terms have already been agreed.
With an asking price of €100 million + bonuses; Gvardiol will become the most expensive defender.
He will be the second Croatian to join the Blues this summer following the singing of Mateo Kovacic. The two are national teammates.
During his welcome interview, the former Chelsea midfielder admitted that he does not know any of his new teammates. If the Gvardiol deal gets over the line, they can help each other settle in.
Given that Gvardiol has been Manchester City’s primary target this summer, sources close to the club confirm that these negotiations have been a priority.
