Official: Ilkay Gundogan has left Manchester City the club confirms

Manchester City have confirmed that Ilkay Gundogan has left club at the end of his contract.

The captain has declined an offer made by City to extend his contract and he will join Barcelona this summer.

Gundogan has provided the club with a statement:

“For me it has been a total privilege and pleasure to be part of Manchester City for the last seven years.

“Manchester has been my home and I have felt part of a very special family at City.

“I have been lucky to have experienced so many unforgettable moments in my time here and to have been captain for this extra special season has been the greatest experience of my career.”

He will depart after one of Manchester City’s most successful seasons. Having captained the club to a treble; third consecutive Premier League and first ever Champions League.

Given all that he has achieved over his seven years as a blue, he signs out as a hero.

Concluding with a moving statement, he said:

“I will carry City always in my heart. Once a blue, always a blue.”
