Aymeric Laporte rejects Spurs and Aston Villa could swoop in

Aymeric Laporte is looking for a move away from Manchester City this summer due to lack of game time.

The left-footed centre-back saw his playing time reduced in the treble winning season. Guardiola had set on a stable back four in which new signing Akanji was a part of.

Laporte had played through injury during the Premier League title win of 21/22. Which undoubtedly helped secure the second consecutive League title. Nevertheless, he was unable to find his place this season after his recovery.

With Manchester City preparing to welcome Gvardiol to the Etihad, it leaves Laporte’s City future less appealing.

Transfer correspondent Peter O’Rourke said for Football Insider:

“Man City defender Aymeric Laporte has rejected a summer move to Tottenham, sources have told Football Insider.”

O’Rourke also reports that Aston Villa are keen on the defender:

“Aston Villa are considering a move for Man City star Aymeric Laporte, sources have told Football Insider.

“Villa are in the market for another centre-back and Laporte ticks a lot of boxes for Unai Emery due to his Premier League experience and ability to play on the left-side of a partnership.”

However, it will be difficult for Villa to entice Laporte with him wanting Champions League football.

Sources close to Manchester City suggest that although a sale would be preferred for all parties, a loan could be considered.
