Mateo Kovacic has been one of Manchester City’s primary targets this window. Chelsea needing to sell players to trim their squad has meant Kovacic was available for City to swoop.

Personal terms had been agreed between Kovacic and Manchester City before the deal was completed with Chelsea.

The addition of Kovacic strengthens the Manchester City midfield. He may well feature early for Manchester City with the injury to Kevin De Bruyne.

With the futures of Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan up in the air, Kovacic adds quality, depth and experience to City’s midfield.
