Juanma Lillo could return to Manchester City as Assistant Coach on Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff.
Sam Lee and Pol Ballus of The Athletic claim that City are working towards brokering a deal with Lillo’s current side Al Sadd.
Lillo is currently Manager of the Qatari side following his exit from Pep’s staff in summer 2022.
Given that Enzo Maresca was confirmed as Leicester City’s Head Coach last week, City are looking to replace him.
The vastly experienced Spanish coach has one year remaining on his Al Sadd contract. Though there could be a clause which if triggered, a return to the Etihad may be on the cards.
Inigo Dominguez, Lillo’s assistant at Al Sadd could join Guardiola’s also coaching staff, as reported by Lee and Ballus.
Juanma Lillo saw plenty of success in his first spell at the club, and was undoubtedly a popular figure amongst players and staff.
In a display of support he was in Manchester ahead of the Champions League semi-final and in Istanbul for the final.
There were many ex-City players and staff in attendance of the Champions League final in support of their former club. An illustration of the positive relationships Manchester City maintains.
