Sergio Gomez has been rumoured to depart Manchester City this season, though he has other ideas.
He joined the club in the summer ahead of the 22/23 season from Belgium club Anderlecht.
The Spanish youngster joined the blues on a four-year contract. He made his City debut as sub for Erling Haaland in a win at home to Crystal Palace.
He went on to make his Champions League debut against Sevilla. While the young midfielder turned left-back made 23 appearances in all competitions, he failed to become a regular starter.
Despite rumours of Burnley and his ex-Anderlecht manager Kompany making contact over the player. Gomez is keen on proving himself in Manchester.
In an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, Gomez said:
“I haven’t talked to him about the next season, but I want to stay there.
“I’m going to go from the first day of the preseason with a lot of desire to show him that I can have more minutes.”
Sergio Gomez appears to have the technical ability and versatility for a Guardiola squad. However, the defensive ability shown earlier in the season will need work if he hopes to breakthrough at City.
Sergio Gomez: “[Pep] Guardiola has helped me on a day-to-day basis. When you think you can’t learn more, he always has something up his sleeve. You learn a lot, it’s outrageous…” [via @EsportsRAC1]
