Is there a summer rebuild coming at Manchester City?

With several key players futures at Manchester City in doubt, there seems to be a changing of the guard coming at Manchester City.

As it stands so far Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Aymeric Laporte, Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo are all linked with a summer exit.

Cancelo seems an obvious one to leave. He spent the second half of the season on loan at Bayern Munich. After reports of his attitude causing dressing room problems before he left for Bayern, it’s hard to see a way back for Cancelo.

Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Mahrez, Walker and Laporte are all different cases to Cancelo entirely. Each one has been a key part of Manchester City’s success at various stages this season.

If they were all to leave this window, however unlikely that scenario is, it would leave a massive hole in City’s squad.

Manchester City are one of the best run clubs in the world. There would be plans in place for the potential scenario at play this window.

There are links to Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol currently. Deals for the Croatian duo are seemingly not far away according to recent reports.

Who Manchester City’s other transfer targets are if so many key players leave remain unknown at this stage.

A squad with Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Rodri, Ruben Dias, John Stones and Ederson in goal is a formidable squad to add to. Especially with Pep Guardiola as manager.

It does feel that Manchester City are building their next squad this window.

Rather than rest on such a successful season it does feel like Manchester City are getting ready for a rebuild this summer.
