Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has reported that Kovacic has agreed terms with Manchester City. It was also reported earlier this week by Romano that talks had begun between Manchester City and Chelsea.
Kovacic signalled his intentions to leave Chelsea this summer in a interview earlier this week. Speaking with the media before Croatia’s Nations League clash with the Netherlands next week Kovacic was asked about his future. He replied-
“I have one year on my contract with Chelsea. It’s been a really bad season.” said Kovacic. The Croatian midfielder added-
“Everything indicates that after five years I will change the environment, but we will see what happens.”
Kovacic has made 221 appearances for Chelsea, contributing six goals and fifteen assists. Also in his time at Chelsea Kovacic has won the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
Mateo Kovacic versatility in central midfield would be a asset to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City should the transfer be completed in the upcoming summer transfer window.
