Josko Gvardiol links to Manchester City intensify as Laporte exit looms

Speculation of Josko Gvardiol arriving at Manchester City in the upcoming transfer window has intensified, The Telegraph reports.

Josko Gvardiol is one of the most sought-after central defenders in Europe. The powerful Croatian centre half was one of the stand out defenders at the recent summer World Cup. Gvardiol has had another stellar season with RB Leipzig, continuing his rapid rise.

His links with Manchester City continue the recent trend of Manchester City targeting the cream of Europe’s elite young talent to add to a already strong Manchester City squad.

As the links of Gvardiol to the Etihad increase doubts have been cast over the future of Aymeric Laporte at Manchester City.

Laporte has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City this season. Manuel Akanji, Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, John Stones and Nathan Ake have been preferred to Laporte this season.

To his credit Laporte has been the ultimate squad player. Laporte would no doubt be disappointed to not play in the big games in such a historic season.

To his credit Laporte hasn’t caused any unrest amongst the City squad. Laporte has gone about his job when called upon and shown the professionalism demanded from Pep Guardiola.

The writing has appeared on the wall of the looming departure for Laporte, with the City defender pictured in tears during the Manchester City Premier League title celebrations.

With the links of Gvardiol to City growing and the Laporte departure seemingly inevitable, another big summer lies ahead for Manchester City.
